Environment in Mind
DCS has joined the Oxfordshire Wildlife Trust who’s aim is to:
Inspire, encourage and support people to take action for wildlife.
Buy, create and manage nature reserves to safeguard species and habitats,
Work with partners to conserve and enhance wildlife in the wider countryside and urban areas.
The Trust has ambitious targets for 8% of land across the three counties to be rich in wildlife by 2020, and restoring 10% of unprotected land to wildlife-rich habitats by 2030. Our strategy aims to embed nature into people’s lives, giving them more natural green spaces to explore and discover their local wildlife.
The DCS site at Banbury is 25 acres in size and our aim is to promote wildlife and wild flowers. For more information on the Trust - see www.bbowt.org.uk
Being environmentally responsible is a priority within The DCS Group. Energy use, carbon emissions, waste… they’re all aspects that influence the decisions we make through our day to day work.
Through building our Environmental Management System to meet the criteria of the internationally recognised ISO 14001 standard, we aim to drive down the environmental impact that our business generates and demonstrate the ability to grow in a sustainable manner.
ISO 14001 is an internationally recognised standard relating to environmental management. It helps us as an organisation to minimize how our operations negatively affect the environment, ensure that we are in compliance with applicable laws and regulations, while seeking continual improvement on all of the above. Our focus on excellence in all areas helps us to reduce our environmental impacts, delivering:
• Less waste sent to landfill
• Lower pollution and environmental impact risk
• Fewer carbon emissions
• Lower energy and fuel bills
• Improved cost savings
• More customer value
Through undertaking a review by the Carbon Trust and monitoring our carbon emissions we are working to reduce our emissions year on year. The implementation of our incredibly efficient sensory T5 lighting system throughout our warehouses is just an example of how we are making these reductions. All waste generated on site is monitored and recycled wherever possible to also help us in reducing our carbon footprint.
DCS have spent 0.5million on ensuring that the heating and lighting are state of art energy efficient systems.
Having an Environmental Management System that meets the standards of the highly sought after ISO 14001 accreditation has had great impacts on the manufacturing side of the organisations operations too; significant cost savings, improved efficiencies, increased control over environmental impacts and greater environmental awareness from staff are just a few of the benefits that have been felt since refining our Environmental Management System.
ISO 14001 assurance gives our customers a guarantee that we will continually strive for environmental excellence
