DCS Group is sponsoring Pamela Relph MBE for the 2016 Rio Olympics

27 Apr 2016

Pamela is reigning Paralympic Champion, 4x World Rowing Champion, World Record holder and remains undefeated in international competition.
Pam was diagnosed with Psoriatic Arthritis at a young age, with the condition manifesting itself in the degeneration in her joints. Her wrist bones fused together whilst Pam was growing and as a result she has limited function and strength in her hand and wrist.
Nonetheless, at age sixteen, Pam embarked on an Army Officer training scheme, winning a scholarship at Welbeck Defence Sixth Form College. Pam was sponsored by the Royal Engineers and had her heart set on a military career, however after four years of education and military training her disability meant that an Army career was no longer viable.
Therefore after being medically discharged from the Army, in 2011, Pam’s older sister Monica, (an international GB Rower herself), encouraged Pam to enquire into classification for Paralympic rowing and it was from there that Pam began her career as a full time athlete.
Within 10 months, Pam was crowned World Champion in the Legs, Trunk and Arms Mixed Coxed 4 (LTA4+) classification at the 2011 World Championship regatta in Bled, Slovenia.
In the 2012 Paralympic Games, Pam’s crew took the Gold Medal on home water at Eton Dorney, leaving a strong German crew in second place and securing the greatest triumph a Paralympian can achieve.
Pam went on to win consecutive world championship titles in 2013 and 2014, with new crewmates, following retirements by the rest of her teammates in the London 2012 boat. She is now training hard on the Road to Rio and having recently returned from the 2015 World Rowing Championships victorious, Pam remains unbeaten internationally and intends to keep it that way!
Denys Shortt OBE comments “Pamela is an exceptional rower and we are delighted to be able to help her in her quest to win Olympic Gold once again”
